About skiing in Chile

Chile holds most of South America's serious skiing, and it happens during the northern summer — the season runs roughly June to early October. The Central Andes above Santiago (Portillo, Valle Nevado, La Parva, El Colorado) are high, treeless and dry, with resorts sitting near or above 10,000 feet; further south, the volcano resorts — Nevados de Chillán, Corralco, Villarrica, Osorno — ski through forest and old lava fields with heavier snowfall and more weather.
