About Portillo
Portillo is South America's most storied ski resort: a single yellow hotel beside Laguna del Inca in the Chilean Andes, no village, no day-trip crowds, and a guest list capped at about 450. National alpine race teams have trained here for decades during the northern-hemisphere summer. Its slingshot va-et-vient lifts, which haul skiers up avalanche-prone faces five abreast, exist almost nowhere else.
